How to Verify API Data Synchronization
To verify API data synchronization, do not stop at a successful API response or completed integration run. Compare the source and target records after the sync and check whether the expected data actually matches.
An API can return success while the final business data is still incomplete or inconsistent.
API success is not the same as data success
A successful request only confirms that a request was accepted or processed at one stage of the workflow.
It does not automatically prove that every expected record reached the destination with the correct values.
Verify the final state
Use a stable key to match the same logical record on both sides.
Then compare the selected business fields that should be identical after synchronization.
Source → API/integration → Target → Reconciliation
Classify the issues
Missing — an expected target record is absent.
Different — the record exists, but selected field values do not match.
Duplicate — the same key appears multiple times where one record was expected.
OK — the expected record exists and selected values match.
Run verification after the sync
The verification layer should not replace the API workflow.
It should run after the integration completes and independently inspect the result.
This keeps transport logic and verification logic separate.
Where Verirow fits
Verirow is built around this post-sync reconciliation pattern.
It independently compares source and target data after an integration run and makes record-level issues visible.
For more detail, see the Verirow case study.
